What’s Inside?
The project prompt was to redesign the casing for a levitating lamp. I took the existing product apart to access the EDS coil so I could measure it for my model.

Most of my components were straightforward to 3D model as they were more boxy in form. The shell is where I spent the most time as it was more organic and I wanted to stay true to the form.

Engineering it
Creating my physical model is where I really saw the benefits of 3D printing being a medium for quick prototyping. I was able to test the fitting of the printed parts, and reprint quickly with changes if it did not fit.
Making it a Reality
Final Lap
What made my project stand apart was its finishing. Using other materials like acrylic, and surfacing by painting and sandblasting really helped to pitch my product at finals.

Down Rainbow Road is a levitating lamp. The item box uses electrodynamic suspension to float over Rainbow Road, giving racers the opportunity to launch the dreaded blue shell at the lead racer.
